MIDDLE CREEK — The Kentucky Highland Folk Festival kicks off this weekend, this year at joining with the Battle of Middlecreek to put together three days of historic celebration.
This year marks the 49th presentation of the Kentucky Highland Folk Festival, as well as marking the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Middle Creek.
Events begin at 4 p.m., Friday, as the Kentucky Highland Folk Festival Musicians start playing, followed by a Luminary & Remembrance Ceremony at 9 p.m. and Ghost Walk at 10 p.m.
During the luminary, a Tribute to Fallen Soldiers and Sept. 11 will be held, as well as a retiring of the colors by Boy Scout Troop #802.
The list of events taking place Saturday and Sunday are as follows:
9 a.m. - Camp Opens.
12:45 p.m. - Raising of the Flags
1:15 p.m. - Winds of Appalachia Summer Band
2 p.m. - Battle of Ivy Mountain
3 p.m. - Kentucky Highland Folk Festival Musicians
7 p.m. - Square Dance
10 p.m. - Night Fire and Ghost Walk
11 p.m. - Taps
9 a.m. - Camp Opens
10 a.m. Church Services
1 p.m. Battle of Middle Creek
