PRESTONSBURG — Traffic was slowed on one Floyd County road, Wednesday morning, after a garbage truck began spewing oil.
At 10 a.m. Wednesday, a Floyd County garbage truck was parked on Abbott Creek with crews standing around it, and piles of sand scattered about the roadway.
According to Floyd County Sheriff John K Blackburn, who was at the scene, the garbage truck had started leaking oil near the mouth of Abbott Creek and traveled a little over a mile on the road before workers realized it. The sanitation truck had a small amount of sand to handle spills which was used nearby.
Kentucky transportation crews were called out to coat the road which had become noticeably slick following the spill.
No automobile accidents were reported to have been caused as a result of the spill. Sheriff’s deputies were stationed at the mouth of Abbott Creek and beyond the garbage truck to warn motorists to slow down.
