PIPPA PASSES - Visiting Union College pulled away to defeat non-conference foe Alice Lloyd College 84-70 Tuesday night.
Union, which is ranked 24th nationally, remained undefeated, moving to 4-0.
With the loss, Alice Lloyd dropped to 2-3.
Four different Union College players reached double figures in the scoring column. Junior guard Amber Taylor paced Union with 17 points and a game-high seven assists. Taylor was a perfect eight-for-eight at the foul line. Senior Lindsey Waters followed with 16 points. Waters also had eight rebounds, four blocks and four steals. Also excelling offensively, freshman Haley Perkins netted 14 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Another key offensive player, junior Jennifer Thomas, scored a career-high 11 points out of a reserve role for the Union women’s team.
Alice Lloyd thrived early, leading 9-2 at the 16:54 mark of the first half. Union, however, responded with an 11-0 run.
Alice Lloyd owned a 16-13 lead later in the opening half but Union battled back again. The Lady Bulldogs eventually carried a 40-33 lead into the intermission period. Alice Lloyd was without sophomore guard Carla Booth for some of the first half after the former Kentucky All-Star from Sheldon Clark picked up her second foul early in the contest.
Union led throughout the second half.
Junior Ariel Nickell paced Alice Lloyd with game-highs of 17 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore JJ Hickson joined Nickell in double figures with 10 points.
Nickell and Hickson each had three assists for the Lady Eagles.
Alice Lloyd will play in the Asbury Classic Friday and Saturday.
