PRESTONSBURG — The Prestonsburg city council approved a contract for design work on repairs to the Stonecrest clubhouse, and they are getting a bargain.
The council voted during Monday night’s regular meeting to accept a proposal from Glasgow-based Alliance Corporation, for the princely sum of $1.
Alliance will provide a design for repairing the clubhouse, which has been beset by damage due to ground settling. Once the design is complete, Alliance will provide the city with a bid for the actual work, but the city will be under no obligation to hire Alliance for the job.
In other news, the council received three bids for a surplus black Chevy S-10 and accepted the high bid of $825.
Councilman Freddie Goble also informed the council that he had been approached about the council accepting a road into the city system. The road is at Big Branch of Abbott and leads to an Islamic cemetery, near the Islamic Center of Eastern Kentucky. Goble said those petitioning to have the road made part of the city road system would present their proposal at the next council meeting.
Council members met in closed session to discuss property for about 10 minutes, but took no action upon returning to open meeting.
All council members were present at Monday’s meeting.
