PRESTONSBURG - Teams from multiple regions joined the Prestonsburg boys’ and girls’ basketball teams on Thursday in the opening round of the Prestonsburg Invitational Tournament at the Fieldhouse.
Boys’ teams joining the Prestonsburg Blackcats in the tournament include June Buchanan, Menifee County, Wolfe County, Morgan County and East Ridge.
In addition to Prestonsburg,Phelps, East Ridge, Leslie County, South Floyd, Menifee County, Morgan County and Wolfe County are competing in the girls’ invitational tournament.
Boys’ and girls’ games are being played as part of the tournament each day at the Fieldhouse.
Play in the Prestonsburg Invitational Tournament resumed Friday.
The Prestonsburg Invitational Tournament will wrap up on Saturday night.
In neighboring Pike County, Pikeville is hosting the annual Pikeville Invitational Tournament. Along with host Pikeville, the 2012 edition of the Pikeville Invitational Tournament also features Betsy Layne, Highlands, Spencer County, Harlan County, Breathitt County, Middlesboro and Louisville Collegiate.
The South Floyd Raiders are playing in the Powell County-hosted Red River Classic this week.
The Allen Central Lady Rebels are in Franklin County, competing in the Staxx BBQ Capital City Showdown along with host Franklin County, Anderson County, Bethlehem, Owen County, Williamsburg, Bishop Brossart, Elizabethtown, South Oldham, George Rogers Clark and Richmond, Ind.
The Betsy Layne Ladycats are closer to home, playing in Belfry’s Mountain SchoolGirl Classic, which will also include Lawrence County, Buckhorn, Jenkins and the host Lady Pirates.
