PIPPA PASSES - The 2013 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason baseball poll was released Sunday, January 27 by KIAC officials. KIAC coaches selected newcomer Point Park University as the top team. The Pioneers received five first-place votes and 35 total points. They were selected sixth nationally in the 2013 NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll. Last season, Point Park finished 53-11 overall and advanced to the Avista-NAIA World Series.
Indiana University Southeast was selected second by the coaches with one first-place vote and 31 total points. They finished as the KIAC Tournament runner-up last season. Asbury was selected third in the conference with 21 total points after advancing to the NAIA National Tournament last year. Brescia University sits in the fourth spot in the preseason poll with 19 total points. Berea College is fifth with 12 points, followed by Alice Lloyd College with eight points.
Conference play will begin in March. The season will conclude with the KIAC Tournament in late-April.
ALC softball team tabbed to finish eighth: The 2013 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason softball poll was released Sunday, January 27 by KIAC officials. The defending regular-season champion and conference tournament champion Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers were selected as the top team. IU Southeast received four first-place votes and 59 total points. Last season, IU Southeast finished the regular season with an 18-2 conference record and finished 15th in the final NAIA National Coaches’ Poll. The Grenadiers start the 2013 season ranked 20th in the preseason NAIA Coaches’ Poll.
Positions two through four are separated by just two points with three different teams receiving at least one first-place vote. Point Park University sits in the second position with one first-place vote and 45 total points. Carlow University is third in the poll with two first-place votes and 44 total points. Brescia is fourth with one first-place vote and 43 total points. Asbury University is fifth with 37 points, followed by Berea College (28 points), Midway College (23 points) and Alice Lloyd College (9 points).
Conference play will begin on March 3. The season will conclude with the KIAC Tournament in May.
