PRESTONSBURG - Following a loss to Magoffin County earlier in the week, Prestonsburg returned to the win column Thursday night. Prestonsburg rolled to a victory over the visiting Piarist School on Thursday, winning 96-49 at the Fieldhouse.
With the win, Prestonsburg evened its overall record to 12-12. The Blackcats took one step closer to finishing regular-season play undefeated in the 58th District/Floyd County Conference, improving to 7-0.
Piarist slipped to 3-14 overall and 0-7 in the district/conference. The Knights fell to Prestonsburg for the second time in as many outings.
Fourteen Prestonsurg players scored. Four of Prestonsburg’s 14 scorers reached double figures.
Senior Bryson Williams paced Prestonsburg with a game-high 18 points. Freshman forward Dalton Frasure registered a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 12 rebounds for the Blackcats.
Senior Owen Caudill and Jarrin Hall added 10 points apiece for Prestonsburg in the convincing win.
Hall and Caudill combined to hit five 3-pointers.
Blake Dean, Aaron Foley and Billy Jack Holliday added seven points apiece for the Blackcats. Blake Lemaster (five points), Jon Stidham (five points), Charles Gearheart (three points), Jarredd Jarrell (two points), Johnathan Mullins (two points), Thomas Spears (two points) and Scott Stapleton (two points) also provided scoring for the Prestonsburg boys’ basketball team.
John Gullett and Tyler Stumbo led Piarist with 14 points apiece. Six players accounted for all of Piarist’s scoring. Michael Williams scored eight points and Ben Dennison netted seven for the Knights.
Galvin Greene and Bryce Marshall rounded out the Piarist scoring with four and three points, respectively.
Williams grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for the Knights.
Greene added nine rebounds for Piarist in the loss.
Prestonsburg swept a doubleheader from Piarist School. In the girls’ game, Prestonsburg pulled away to defeat Piarist 55-38.
