PRESTONSBURG — Auditions for this season’s Kentucky Opry Junior pros are scheduled to begin this April at the Mountain Arts Center.
According to MAC officials, the Kentucky Opry will hold open auditions for all Junior Pro positions on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg.
Auditions will be open for both vocalists and instrumentalists between the ages of 6 and 16, and will be by pre-scheduled appointment times only.
“We’re always trying to find strong, talented vocalists and instrumentalists,” said MAC Director Keith Caudill. “We look to see if the program will be a benefit not only the Opry, but to the artists themselves.”
Vocalists should come prepared to sing a verse and chorus of “My Old Kentucky Home,” as well as one other prepared piece that is age appropriate. Vocalists will also have the option of singing with an accompaniment CD or karaoke CD.
Vocalists who can sing both lead and harmony vocals are particularly desired.
Instrumentalists will be asked to perform two selections of their own choosing, which they feel best demonstrates their musical ability. Because of the musical variety format of this group, judges are specifically looking for instrumentalists who are able play one or more of the following instruments: drums, bass, guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, or piano, as well as be able to sing either lead and/or harmony vocals.
“We haven’t used band instrument players in the past,” said Caudill. “But that doesn’t mean we won’t include that. We’re always looking for new opportunities.”
