PAINTSVILLE - Prestonsburg fended off Pikeville in the 15th Region All “A” Classic semifinals on Friday night, winning 5-3 at Charlie Adkins Field.
Sophomore starting pitcher Jarrin Hall claimed the win. Two Prestonsburg relievers, sophomore Travis Powers and senior Cody Chaffin, worked in the sixth inning.
Pikeville scored first, plating a run in the top half of the third inning.
But the Blackcats answered. Prestonsburg scored two runs in the bottom half of the third inning to move ahead 2-1. The Blackcats secured a lead and never trailed again.
Prestonsurg, however, found itself deadlocked with familiar 15th Region foe Pikeville later in the contest after the Panthers pushed across two runs in the top half of the sixth inning.
Not to be denied, two-time defending 15th Region All “A” Classic champion Prestonsburg answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the sixth inning.
Hall, Bryson Williams, Dalton Shepherd and Aaron Foley led a balanced Prestonsburg offense effort with two single apiece.
Grant Anderson and Adam Griffith added one single each for the Blackcats.
Pikeville senior pitcher Austin Priode suffered the loss.
Prestonsburg advanced to play 58th District rival Allen Central in the 15th Region All “A” Classic championship game. Allen Central defeated Phelps 5-2 to reach the title tilt.
