There have been many times that we have heard the complaint, “You just don’t put enough good news in the newspaper. Everything is always so negative.”
Well, part of the blame for that can be found in the nature of news. When something bad happens, it is human nature to want to know about it, so that something can be done to fix it, if possible. On the other hand, when everything is humming along just fine, that’s not really news. That’s just the way it’s supposed to be.
That being said, there is some truth to the complaint. There are a lot of extraordinary and inspiring stories in the world that often go unnoticed, not just by our paper, but by the media in general.
Now is your chance to help fix that. Starting today, you can nominate a deserving person as a “Community Hero,” as part of a new promotion sponsored by Riverview Health Care Center. Simply go to The Floyd County Times website — floydcountytimes.com — and click on the “Community Heroes” banner.
Nominations will be accepted through May 17. Beginning the following day, voting will begin to determine one overall winner, who will receive $100. Voting will run through June 7.
We are certain that we will find more than a few people in our community that are deserving of praise for the work they do.
