BELFRY - Allen Central’s winning streak ended at seven games late last week. Belfry prevented Allen Central from notching its eighth straight win, defeating the visiting Rebels 6-2 on Friday.
Allen Central lost, despite outhitting Belfry 9-6. The Rebels struggled to convert offensively, squandering multiple scoring chances.
Following the loss, Allen Central dropped to 15-7. The Rebels hadn’t lost since falling to Paintsville in a game played on April 12.
Belfry improved to 12-14 after posting the win. The Pirates claimed their second straight victory, winning for the third time in four outings.
The Rebels committed two errors in the non-district loss.
Junior pitcher Zachary Fields pitched five innings for the Pirates, registering six strikeouts en route to the win. Joey Duty, a junior pitcher, worked two innings for the Belfry baseball team.
Allen Central pitcher Tanner Hamilton worked four innings and took the loss.
Belfry set the tone in the bottom half of the opening inning, scoring two runs to lead 2-0. The Pirates scored first and never trailed.
Allen Central got one run back in the top half of the second inning but couldn’t claim a lead.
Belfry added two more runs in the second inning to move ahead 4-1.
After allowing Allen Central to manufacture another run in the top half of the fourth inning, Belfry scored twice to set the final score.
Duty led the Belfry offense with two hits and two RBIs. Junior Reed Williamson also drove in two runs for the Pirates.
Belfry excelled defensively, exiting the contest without an error.
Tanner Hamilton led Allen Central with a game-high three hits and two RBIs.
