PRESTONSBURG — Floyd County school children will now have a safer and more comfortable ride to and from school following the purchase of several new school buses by the district.
Floyd County Supt. Henry Webb announced last week that eleven new school buses have arrived at the Floyd County Schools Transportation Department. School officials say that the new buses are more fuel efficient and are also equipped with air conditioning, a first for Floyd County Schools. The new Saf-T-Liner C2 buses, which will replace older models, were approved for purchase by the Floyd County Board of Education in 2012.
Webb praised board members for being proactive despite budgetary concerns.
“Floyd County Schools strives to be a district of excellence in every facet because that is what our kids deserve,” Webb said. “Raising expectations in the classroom and increasing rigor, improving facilities and improving our modes of transportation, are all part of becoming a district of excellence.”
The new school buses are expected to be used for field trips during the summer and then placed onto regular routes at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year.
