John Forrest Brown, owner of Brown Foodservices Inc., in Louisa, died Saturday May 25, 2013 at his residence in Callawassie Island S.C. Born August 24, 1934 in Van Lear to George D. and Mary Jane Brown he was raised in Prestonsburg and worked at the family wholesale food business started by his parents in 1942.
During his career John had served as President of Nugget Food Distributors, President of the Prestonsburg Chamber of Commerce, President of the Prestonsburg Kiwanis, Advisory Board of Community Trust Bank, and board member of Community Hospice in Ashland.
Mr. Brown was a graduate of Prestonsburg High School and Eastern Kentucky University. After college, John married Patsy Jett and had four children, Judith Lynn Brown of Prestonsburg, Lisa Kaye Doller (Dale) of Lexington, Laura Ann Kegley of Louisa, and Tom Brown of Prestonsburg. Two grandchildren, Daniel Neeley and Janie Kegley. John enjoyed golf, fishing, listening to music, and loved to reminisce with stories of family and friends/ He will always be remembered as a kind husband, father, son and friend. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers Douglas Lloyd Brown and George Cecil Brown of Prestonsburg and sister Edna Noland of Lancaster, Ohio.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday June 1, 2013 at Carter Funeral Home in Prestonsburg. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Sanctuary Hospice, P.O. Box 161, Ridgeland, S.C. 29936.
The family has entrusted arrangements to the Carter Funeral Home.
