MOREHEAD - Morehead State University freshman third baseman Alan Mocahbee has been named to the 2013 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team as selected by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
A native of Ringgold, Ga., Mocahbee led the team in both RBI (36) and home runs (7) in his first season. Those numbers were also the most of any freshman in the Ohio Valley Conference, and he was one of only two league freshmen to drive in more than 30 runs.
“Alan had a good year, and managed to finish the season strong after some mid-season struggles at the plate,” Head Coach Mike McGuire said. “He is only going to get better, and we expect him to be a force in the middle of our lineup for years to come.”
Sweeney, Greenwell named to CSM All-0OVC Teams: Morehead State University sophomore infielder Kane Sweeney has been named First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference by College Sports Madness while senior shortstop Chase Greenwell was selected to the second team following the conclusion of the 2013 baseball season.
Sweeney, who hails from Millstadt, Ill., reached base in all but two games in 2013, including a streak of 41 games. He led the OVC in on-base percentage at .475, while finishing second in batting average at .376.
A native of Elizabethtown, Greenwell finished with a .339 batting average while leading the Ohio Valley Conference in multiple hit games with 27. He started every game at shortstop for MSU, with a .950 fielding percentage and 34 RBI.
