BETSY LAYNE - The Betsy Layne High School football program, under the direction of head coach Jonathan Parsons, held its annual youth camp last week. Young football players received instruction throughout the youth camp.
“We had a great time,” Parsons said. “It was a chance to teach fundamentals to the younger kids. We had kids from all parts of the county. It’s great to see the grade school coaches push their players to take in some football camps.”
Betsy Layne High School football players are currently enjoying a break, thanks to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s Dead Period. When the Dead Period ends, Betsy Layne will resume practice.
Betsy Layne is set to return nine of 11 offensive starters, including four of five offensive linemen. Eight of 11 starters are back on defense for the Bobcats.
Betsy Layne concluded the 2012 season 7-4, finishing third behind Leslie County and Floyd County rival Prestonsburg in Class 2A, District 8. Longtime powerhouse Prestonsburg is the reigning Class 2A, District 8 champion.
Betsy Layne’s schedule for the month of July shapes up as follows: July 10 - Rractice, 5-7 p.m.; July 11 - KCU Passing Camp; July 12 - UPIKE Passing Camp; July 13 - Betsy Layne Passing Camp; July 20 - UK Passing Camp; July 21-22 MSU Camp.
