PIPPA PASSES — An investigation is underway by Kentucky State Police after a late-night gun battle in Knott County last weekend.
Kentucky State Police officials released a statement Monday morning stating that troopers were dispatched to a home in Pippa Passes shortly before 2 a.m. Police were told that a male subject was attempting to gain entry into the home by use of force.
The alleged perpetrator, 50-year-old Clyde Thomas, was accused of forcing his way into the residence by breaking open a glass door. Once inside, he allegedly fired several shots with an unidentified firearm. The owner of the home returned fire, resulting in Thomas receiving multiple gunshot wounds.
Thomas was transported to Hazard ARH by Tran-Star Ambulance and later flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. Thomas’ status was not released by KSP officials.
Police say that the wife and daughter of Thomas were both in the residence during the intrusion but were not injured in the gunfire. Det. Clayton Stamper is in charge of the investigation and criminal charges are pending at this time.
