BETSY LAYNE - Betsy Layne will start preseason practice on Wednesday. The Bobcats are eager to return to the gridiron after concluding the 2012 season 7-4. Betsy Layne, under the direction of head coach Jon Parsons, outscored opponents 374-269 last season and returns its leading passer and rusher from the winning campaign.
One of the better teams in the history of the Betsy Layne High School football program is set to take the field. Betsy Layne returns nine of 11 offensive starters, including four of five offensive linemen. Eight of 11 starters are back on defense for the Bobcats.
Betsy Layne returns a host of go-to players offense, including Dylan Hamilton (QB), Houston Hall (RB), Blake Spencer (TE), Peyton Case (WR), Dustin Rogers (WR) and Lako Daniels (RB).
In all, nine starters are back for the Betsy Layne offensive unit.
Spencer (LB), Hall (LB) and defensive back Dustin Rogers are back to lead the Betsy Layne defensive unit. Rogers registered a team-high eight interceptions for the Bobcats last season.
The Betsy Layne defense returns eight starters.
Betsy Layne has added Josh Murphy (RB/LB), a transfer from Belfry, along with Dylan Meade (WR/DB), one of the 15th Region’s top basketball players.
Andrew Tackett (QB/WR/DB) is another talented newcomer for the Bobcats.
The Betsy Layne football program’s booster club will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Bobcats will travel to Grayson on Saturday for a Kentucky Christian University-hosted passing camp.
Betsy Layne is scheduled to open the 2013 season season versus former Class A foe Phelps in the Community Trust Pike County Bowl.
