Workers were busy Tuesday trying to get McDowell Elementary School clean after flash flooding Monday evening poured into the school.

Volunteers were out in Wayland after Monday’s heavy rains cleaning out Martin Branch Freewill Baptist Church after flood waters got into the basement of the building and covered the parking lot with mud.

Volunteers from Left Beaver Fire Department were out in force trying to clean mud out of the parking lot at McDowell Elementary.

Work had not yet begun in McDowell Elementary School’s playground which was buried in mud following Monday’s flooding.

Volunteers from Stonecrest Golf Course brought food to McDowell Elementary School to help feed the dozens of workers who had showed up Tuesday to help clean the school.

High waters caused by several days of flooding was eroding culverts and tearing up asphalt all over Floyd County.
