PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats soccer team opened up the 2013 season on Tuesday with a 3-0 win on the road over the Hazard Lady Bulldogs. Junior Katie Porter paced the Lady Blackcats with two goals. Freshman Carly Burchett added one goal for the Prestonsburg girls’ soccer team, which compiled a 12-11 overall record last season.
Burchett and sophomore Jackie Kidd each had one assist for the Lady Blackcats.
“Hazard is much-improved from last year and played us very tight for the whole 80 minutes,” Prestonsburg Coach Scott Porter said. “I am especially proud of how well our defense played. Led by Seniors Jenna Little, Kaylee Collins, Jordan Carroll and Junior McKenzie Collins, they held Hazard to a shutout, only allowing four shots on goal the entire game. Sophomore Maddy Ousley contributed big, playing in her first game as a goalkeeper. We have a good number of younger girls that joined the team over the summer, so it was exciting to be in a game-control position allowing them much needed game experience.”
Prestonsburg will host 15th Region rival Shelby Valley in a home opener at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The Lady Blackcats have additional regular-season games on the 2013 schedule versus Johnson Central, Letcher County Central, Perry County Central, Greenup County, Sheldon Clark, Paintsville, Hazard, Menifee County, Lawrence County, Belfry, Paintsville, Sheldon Clark, Pikeville and Belfry.
