Betsy Layne students move into Big Sandy Idol finals

BETSY LAYNE – Three Betsy Layne students will move on to the finals after finishing in the top of the recent in the Big Sandy Idol school competition.

Big Sandy Community and Technical College held its Big Sandy Idol competition at Betsy Layne High School on Friday, Sept. 6.

Twelve students participated for the coveted spots for the annual Big Sandy Idol regional competition set for March at the Mountain Arts Center.

Senior Allie Meade was crowned the overall winner, and the runners-up were sophomore Alex Meade and junior Kayla Gillespie.

“We had a tremendous showing at Betsy Layne High School,” said Clayton Case, Director of Fine Arts at BSCTC. “The talent of Eastern Kentucky continues to amaze us when we make stops at schools across our service area.”

Friday’s Big Sandy Idol school competition also featured a small concert by the Big Sandy Singers, an elite group comprised of BSCTC students.

The Big Sandy Idol competition will next make its way to South Floyd High School on Friday, September 13.

Big Sandy Community and Technical College is celebrating milestone anniversaries on its Mayo Campus (75 years), Prestonsburg Community College (50 years) and Big Sandy Community and Technical College (10 years).
