MOREHEAD - Angelo Warner, a junior basketball player at Morehead State University, has been tabbed by College Sports Madness as a Preseason Second-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection.
“Angelo had a very good sophomore year, and we’re expecting even more from him as a junior,” MSU Head Coach Sean Woods said. “This will be Angelo’s third season of Division I basketball, and we plan on him being a major contributor.”
Warner played in 31 games for the Eagles last year. He ranked second on the team with 10.9 points per game. The 6-foot-2 guard also collected 4.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.7 steals per contest.
Warner shot 43 percent from the floor and 83 percent from the free-throw line. He ranked sixth among conference players in steals and eighth in free-throw percentage.
“Angelo is a very versatile player,” Woods said. “He can knock down outside shots, take people off the dribble and create scoring opportunities for teammates. He also rebounds well for a guard and puts defensive pressure on the opponent.”
A native of Orlando, Fla., Warner reached double figures in scoring on 20 occasions last season. He drilled 16-of-18 from the charity stripe en route to a career-best 24 points against league opponent Tennessee State on Jan. 26.
Morehead State finished the 2012-13 season 15-18 overall and 8-8 in conference play. The Eagles open the 2013-14 campaign on Nov. 2 with a home exhibition against in-state rival St. Catharine.
MSU Football: Morehead State will return to Pioneer Football League action on Saturday when it hosts Davidson. Kickoff from Jayne Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
Both teams are searching for their first win of 2013. The Eagles are 0-4 after a home setback to Eastern Kentucky. The Wildcats are 0-3 after a road loss to Johnson C. Smith.
Morehead State owns an 8-6 advantage in the all-time series against Davidson, which dates back to 1999. The Eagles posted a 49-14 victory over the Wildcats last season.
Tickets are just $10 for adults and $3 for children 12-and-under. Morehead State students are admitted free with a valid student ID. All seating is general admission. Parking is just $5 per vehicle.
