Ladycats win Paintsville Fall Classic

PAINTSVILLE - The Betsy Layne Ladycats volleyball team captured the Paintsville Fall Classic championship on Saturday. A contender for the 15th Region title, Betsy Layne beat Lawrence County, Paintsville, Russell, Phelps and Ashland Blazer en route to capturing a championship in the late-season tournament.

“I am very proud of my team, coming off a hard week of conference matches, to stay focused and push through being tired,” Betsy Layne Coach Christina Crase commented. “They were able to win five straight matches to bring home a championship. Everyone on the team stepped up at different points on Saturday to help lead the team to achieving this championship.”

During the Paintsville-hosted tournament, Betsy Layne defeated Lawrence County 2-0 (25-13, 25-9); Paintsville 2-0 (25-10, 25-20); Russell 2-1 (22-25, 25-12, 25-19); Phelps 2-0 (25-11, 25-10) and Ashland Blazer (25-23, 25-18).

The Paintsville Fall Classic featured high school volleyball teams from the 15th and 16th regions.

Betsy Layne entered the week 21-4.
