Rebels turn back Phelps on Senior Night

EASTERN - The Allen Central volleyball team claimed its 28th win of the season on Tuesday, shutting out visiting Phelps. It was senior night at Allen Central and seniors Rachel Moore and DeShea Elliott were honored and recognized.


After the senior celebration, Allen Central rolled to a 3 – 0 victory, winning 25-13, 25-7, 25-10. Katie Kendrick led the Allen Central with 19 kills on .760 hitting. Rachel Moore registered a double-double, pounding in 12 kills and earned 11 scoops. She also smacked in four service aces while serving at 89 percent. Sarah Grindrod dropped six kills and Hayley Pinson chipped in with three. Taylor Moore contributed two kills and Kelsie Jackson, Emily Johnson, and Lakyn Wallace dropped in one each.


Jannah Halbert set up 18 kills and landed three service aces while Heather Burdzilauskas dished up 10 kills and Moore set up six. Kelsie Jackson, DeShea Elliott, and Lanah Gibson skidded in one service ace apiece.


Defensively, Allen Central delivered 129, returned 95 percent of its opportunities and earned 38 digs. In addition to Moore’s 11 digs, Elliott registered nine scoops and Gibson dug up seven. Kendrick blocked three and Moore earned one.


Allen Central will meet South Floyd in the 58th District Tournament at Prestonsburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
