For local children, Halloween provided a trick, with the treat not coming until later this weekend.
Thursday’s trick-or-treat observance in Prestonsburg and Floyd County was postponed, due to fears of potential severe weather. Local leaders made the call Thursday afternoon, just four hours prior to the scheduled start of festivities.
According to the National Weather Service, in Jackson, a strong cold front was expected to move through the area Thursday evening, bringing wind gusts up to 45 mph and the potential for thunderstorms.
According to both the mayor’s office and the county judge-executive’s office, trick-or-treaters will instead be allowed to gather their goodies on Saturday, from 6 to 8 p.m.
