PIKEVILLE – University of Pikeville athletic director Dr. Reggie Overton formally announced on Thursday that he would resign from his position after three years at the school.
Overton, who was also a professor of sport management at UPIKE, has accepted a position at another academic institution.
“I want to thank President James Hurley and Chancellor Paul Patton for their mentorship and leadership during the last three years,” said Overton. “It’s been a difficult decision. I’m leaving behind many wonderful, lifelong friends.
“I’m proud to say the UPIKE athletic department is on solid ground and moving in the right direction both academically and athletically. I also appreciate the leadership of the City of Pikeville, Pike County and Eastern Kentucky as their community spirit and vision has enhanced the quality of athletics at UPIKE.”
“On behalf of the university, we’d like to thank Dr. Overton for his service to our students,” said Hurley. “We wish him the best in future endeavors.”
Associate athletic director Robert Staggs will serve as the interim athletic director.
“The university will begin a national search for a full-time athletic director immediately to successfully lead our athletic program and our student-athletes,” said Hurley.
