HINDMAN - Savannah Hatmaker scored 15 points and teammates Haley Short and Kristen Waugh added 13 apiece to lead host Knott County Central past Prestonsburg 71-44 on Thursday night (Dec. 12)
The Lady Patriots used a strong second half performance to pull away for the win.
Knott County Central defeated Prestonsburg for its first win, evening its record to 1-1.
Prestonsburg slipped to 0-3 as a result of the loss.
The Lady Blackcats, however, played well in the first half of the game against former 14th Region champion Knott County Central, which is still a title contender.
Knott County Central edged Prestonsburg 17-15 in the opening quarter. After faring better in the second period, Knott County Central packed a 35-26 lead into halftime.
The Lady Patriots played their best basketball after intermission to claim the win.
Emily scored scored eight points and Lexie Slone added six for Knott County Central in the win.
Knott County Central outrebounded Prestonsburg 24-21.
The Lady Patriots shot 37 percent (20 of 54) from the field. Knott County Central was only four of 19 (21 percent) from 3-point range.
The Lady Patriots fared better from the free throw line, finishing with a 56 percent (19 of 34) shooting effort
Reesce Endicott and Jana Jarvis led Prestonsburg with 12 points apiece. Tiffany Meadows just missed reaching double figures as she scored nine points in the loss.
Jaiden Reed scored three points and Jackie Kidd and Shantel Collins chipped in two apiece for the Lady Blackcats.
Allyson DeRossett, Lauren Click, Casey Ritchie and Maddy Ousley connected on one free throw each for Prestonsburg in the loss.
The Lady Blackcats shot 34 percent (11 of 32) from the field. Prestonsburg was two of 15 from 3-point range.
The Lady Blackcats made just under half of their free throw attempts, finishing 16 of 34 (47 percent).
