PIPPA PASSES - The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles rolled past the Berea College women’s basketball team on Tuesday, toppling the visiting KIAC opponent 99-63 at Grady Nutt Athletic Center.
Alice Lloyd, which improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in the KIAC after recording the win, moved out in front early. The Lady Eagles led 39-18 midway through the first half and packed a 57-20 lead into halftime.
Reigning KIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Ariel Nickell led Alice Lloyd with 36 points and 12 rebounds, both game-high totals. Nickell was one of two Alice Lloyd players to post a double-double.
Carla Booth, a Martin County native who graduated from Sheldon Clark High School, also thrived, scoring 16 points and dishing out a game-high 12 assists for ALC women’s team.
Taylor Arthur scored 10 points and also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds for the Lady Eagles.
Aiding the Alice Lloyd attack, Johnson Central High School graduate Amber Shepherd, a Floyd County native, grabbed 10 rebounds and scored nine points, narrowly missing a double-double.
Alice Lloyd shot 56.7 percent (38 of 67) from the field. The Lady Eagles were 11 of 24 (45.8 percent) from 3-point range.
Defensively, Alice Lloyd held Berea to 30.1 percent shooting.
Johnesha Warren led Berea with 16 points.
With the loss, Berea dropped to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the KIAC.
