HI HAT - The Piarist Lady Knights are making a habit out of winning close games over the South Floyd girls’ basketball team. Piarist completed a regular-season sweep of South Floyd on Monday, edging the host Lady Knights 53-51 in a 58th District/Floyd County Conference matchup.
The win over South Floyd allowed the Lady Knights to halt a four-game losing skid.
For South Floyd, Thursday’s setback was its fourth straight loss since competing the Prestonsburg Holiday Classic in late-December.
A pair of Piarist players reached double figures in the scoring. Senior guard Cathryn Calhoun paced Piarist with a game-high 25 points. Earlier in the season, Calhoun signed with the University of Pikeville.
Following Calhoun in the Piarist scoring column, Lauren Wright delivered 14 points.
Piarist found a way to win despite shooting only 43.2 percent (16 of 37) from the foul line.
Jessi Hale chipped in seven points, Shelby Lemaster netted five and Taylor Eckle added two for the Lady Knights.
Piarist remained in the win column on Wednesday, thanks to a 44-34 victory over Pike County Central.
With the win over Pike County Central, Piarist improved to 4-6 overall.
Currently, Piarist is 2-1 in the district/conference.
South Floyd is 3-13 overall and 0-4 in the district/conference.
Piarist is scheduled to visit Betsy Layne on Thursday, Jan. 23.
The Lady Raiders are slated to host Betsy Layne tonight at 6 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader.
