Raiders capture county title

PRESTONSBURG - The South Floyd Middle School boys’ basketball program is back on top in Floyd County. South Floyd hit seven 3-pointers and held a lead over Betsy Layne at the end of each quarter on Thursday night, defeating the longtime rival 46-40 in the Floyd County title game at the Prestonsburg Fieldhouse.


Jake Collins led South Floyd with a game-high 18 points. Joining Collins in double figures, JR Tackett scored 17 points for the Raiders.


South Floyd edged Betsy Layne 10-8 in the opening quarter and led 19-15 at halftime.


The Raiders led 33-26 at the end of the third quarter.


Kendall Little contributed five points and Conner Johnson and Brady Conn tossed in three apiece for South Floyd in the championship-clinching win.


Zack Hamilton led Betsy Layne with 15 points. Kyle Watkins also reached double figures for the Bobcats, finishing with 14 points.


Grant Osborn just missed double figures with nine points and Quinton Adkins added two points for the Bobcats.


Betsy Layne made six 3-pointers in the runner-up finish.
