PRESTONSBURG - Visiting Prestonsburg claimed its fourth 58th District win on Wednesday, defeating Betsy Layne 10-7.
Prestonsburg starting pitcher Travis Powers worked the first five innings and earned the win.
Nick Rowe closed the game out on the mound for the Blackcats.
Betsy Layne starting pitcher Houston Hall suffered the loss.
With the win, Prestonsburg improved to 12-11 overall and 4-2 in the 58th District.
As a result of the loss, Betsy Layne slipped to 11-13 overall and 2-4 in the district.
Prestonsburg, under the direction of head coach Shane Simpkins, used a five-run fourth inning to separate itself from Betsy Layne.
The Blackcats scored 10 runs via eight hits.
Thriving in the field, Prestonsburg turned in an error-free performance.
The Bobcats plated one run in the top half of the first inning to move ahead 1-0. But Prestonsburg answered with three runs of its own to lead 3-1.
After moving ahead, Prestonsburg never trailed again. But the Blackcats found themselves tied with Betsy Layne again. Betsy Layne outscored Prestonsburg 3-1 in the third inning to even the score at 4-4.
Prestonsburg used the five-run outburst in the fourth inning to move ahead and ended a Betsy Layne three-run rally in the sixth inning on its way to the win.
At the plate, Aaron Foley and Grant Martin paced Prestonsburg with two singles and one run each. Martin also recorded two RBIs.
The Bobcats pushed across seven runs on six hits.
Hall and Jonathan Brock led the Betsy Layne offensive effort with two RBIs apiece.
Struggling defensively, Betsy Layne committed five errors.
Prestonsburg completed a regular-season sweep. When the Blackcats and Bobcats met at StoneCrest on April 29, Prestonsburg prevailed 4-0.
