PIKEVILLE – The University of Pikeville women’s soccer team was held scoreless on Sunday as visiting Cumberland University pulleda way to win 8-0.

The match, played on “Find the Cure Day” to support breast cancer awareness, saw the Bears drop to 5-8, but more importantly they remain winless at 0-7 in the Mid-South Conference (MSC).

Cumberland climbed to 14-2 overall and 8-1 in the MSC after notching the win.

Rhianne Parsons got her name on the score sheet first for the Bulldogs in the 20th minute with an assist courtesy of Simone Quinn. Taylor Nay and Shauna Gilpin also added goals before halftime.

After the half, Nay sent a clever through ball to the feet of Quinn, who finished from close range in the 65th. Kelsey Langille then proceeded to net a brace of goals within five minutes of each other (73rd, 78th) before Brenna Evilcizer and Gilpin finished off the scoring.

The Bears were outshot by a whopping 44-5, and put just two efforts on goal for Bulldogs keeper Lindsay Kitson to save. Kitson’s opposite keeper, UPIKE’s Chelsea Schulte, was able to post a 66.7 percent save ratio by keeping out 16 of the Bulldogs’ 24 shots on goal, including a brilliant effort when she sprinted back to her goal to make a save with a little help from UPIKE centerback Whitney Anderson.

Another goal for Cumberland was disallowed by the offsides flag, which rose 10 times for the Bulldogs but not once for the Bears.
