PRESTONSBURG - Prestonsburg sophomore quarterback Jarredd Jarrell is being rewarded for an outstanding 2012 season. The Kentucky Football Coaches Association has named Jarrell the Class 2A, District 8 Player of the Year.

Jarrell, the state’s all-time single-game passing leader, completed 163-of-267 passes for 3,151 yards and 32 touchdowns.

Prestonsburg junior Grant Anderson and senior Bryson Williams each had over 1,000 yards receiving. Anderson hauled in 67 receptions for 1,257 yards and 12 touchdowns. Williams, the state’s all-time single-game receiving leader, hauled in 46 catches for 1,028 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Jarrell, a first-year starter at quarterback, excelled on defense for Prestonsburg during his freshman season. The talented athlete also helped Prestonsburg defensively during his sophomore season, registering 37 tackles, four interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

Jarrell etched his name into the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) record books on Sept. 14 in a win over Pike County Central. Jarrell completed 18-of-27 passes for 676 yards and nine touchdowns, setting numerous records as the Blackcats defeated familiar foe Pike County Central 83-49.

Jarrell is currently preparing for the 2012-13 Prestonsburg boys’ basketball season. He led the Prestonsburg boys’ basketball team in scoring as a freshman, averaging 12.8 points per game.
