Claude E. Reffitt, age 80, of Sunset Road, Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at the Fleming County Hospital in Flemingsburg.

Born June 27, 1932, in Langley, he was a son of the late C. C. and Maggie Robinson Reffitt. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Beverage Reffitt, and two sisters, Christine Shadley and Mildred Halbert.

Claude is survived by his wife, Shirley Tackett Reffitt; six children, Claudette Reffitt, of Langley, Oma Elkins, of Pikeville, Bobby Reffitt, of Bath County, Thomas Reffitt, of Langley, Billy Reffitt, of Hillsboro, and Cheri Hawkins, of Hillsboro; 17 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Other survivors include a brother, Robert Reffitt, of Manhattan, Kan.; two sisters, Harriett Ann Schumacher and Wilma May, both of Louisville; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Claude was a coal miner in Floyd County for a number of years, which resulted in disability retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and promoting the Democratic Party. Claude was a member of the Sharkey Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Hutton Funeral Home, with Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike, Brandon and Blake Hawkins and Billy, Tyler and Eric Reffitt.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
