EASTERN - Host Allen Central registered a key 58th District/Floyd County Conference win Friday night, defeating South Floyd 54-39 at J.E. Campbell Arena.
Allen Central led at the end of each quarter on its way to posting the win.
Excelling late in the district/conference contest, Allen Central outscored visiting South Floyd 15-2 in the fourth quarter.
The Rebels notched their first win, improving to 1-3. Allen Central had suffered losses to Pikeville, Betsy Layne and June Buchanan in games played earlier in the season.
South Floyd remained winless, slipping to 0-3. The Raiders have also dropped games to defending 15th Region champion Johnson Central and Cordia.
Senior Josh Wiley led the Allen Central offensive attack with a game-high 20 points. Sophomore guard Mason Nelson, a talented young scorer, added 17 points for the Rebels.
Allen Central outscored South Floyd 15-10 in the first quarter and led 27-21 at at halftime.
But South Floyd wouldn’t go away. The Raiders made the game interesting in the second half, outscoring Allen Central 16-12 in the third quarter.
However, the momentum South Floyd had going was halted with Allen Central’s dominant 15-2 run in the final period.
Allen Central was 21-for-51 from the field. The Rebels’ outing included a five-for-12 effort from 3-point range.
Allen Central was seven-of-11 from the free throw line.
Sophomore Dillon Lawson scored six points and Cameron Hamilton added five for the Rebels.
Tyler Daniels paced South Floyd with 16 points.
The Allen Central-South Floyd girls’ basketball game wasn’t nearly as close. The Lady Rebels rolled to a 75-26 win over the South Floyd girls, improving to 4-0.
The Lady Raiders remained winless, dropping to 0-5.
