Robber gets nothing; police arrest suspect

WHEELWRIGHT — A frequently targeted pharmacy was hit again last Thursday, and police say the man responsible is now behind bars.

Kentucky State Police say that an attempted robbery was perpetrated at the Wheelwright Pharmacy last Thursday afternoon. A man reportedly entered the business and demanded cash from employees. When no response was forthcoming from employees, the man fled the business on foot.

On Saturday, Trooper John Gabbard traveled to Knott County following up on the investigation and observed a black Chevrolet Impala traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle had been associated with the crime after a photograph of the vehicle was released to local media.

Following a traffic stop, Anthony King, 32, of Kite, was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted robbery of the Wheelwright Family Drug.

King was arrested and lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center and additionally charged with tampering with physical evidence, as well as active warrants and traffic offenses.

Kentucky State Police were assisted in the investigation by Floyd County Sheriff’s Department and the Wheelwright City Police.

The incident remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.

King was arraigned in Floyd County District Court on Monday, and his bond was set at $100,000.
