RICHMOND - Simon Gray has been named acting Director of Athletics for Eastern Kentucky University. He begins his duties January 2, 2013 and will continue to head the athletics department until current Director of Athletics, Mark Sandy, returns from his duties as interim Vice President for University Advancement.

Gray has been Associate and then Senior Associate Athletics Director for eight years. His duties have included overseeing both the internal operations and external relations of the athletics department.

“I share Mr. Sandy’s confidence in Simon and the rest of our athletics management team,” EKU President Doug Whitlock said. “His leadership experience makes him an ideal candidate to be an AD. The Athletics Department is in very good shape and we expect continued success during the spring semester.”

At the request of President Whitlock, Sandy will serve as interim VP for Advancement until the next President has an opportunity to fill the position.
