The Kentucky Attorney General’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are apparently conducting an investigation in the wake of November’s general election in Floyd County.

Floyd County Attorney Keith Bartley noted during a hearing on Friday that absentee ballots cast in the race for Martin mayor are currently in the custody of the Attorney General’s Office for the purpose of a joint investigation between the AG’s office and the FBI.

The ballots, Bartley said, were taken following a recanvass of the mayor’s race, which upheld the Election Day victory of challenger Sam Howell over incumbent Mayor Thomasine Robinson.

Bartley confirmed following Friday’s hearing, held in Perry County Circuit Court regarding a lawsuit stemming from the mayor’s race, that the investigation involves Robinson and others connected to the former mayor, but said he could not reveal any other information about the investigation.
