Blackcats remain perfect in district/conference

PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg Blackcats remained perfect in the 58th District/Floyd County Conference at press time. Prestonsburg was visiting Piarist School on Thursday evening. Over the past week, Prestonsburg has defeated district/conference foes Allen Central and South Floyd. Through Wednesday, Prestonsburg was 5-0 in the 58th District/Floyd County Conference and 10-11 overall. Here’s a closer look at Prestonsburg’s wins over Allen Central and South Floyd.

Prestonsburg 65, Allen Central 30: Prestonsburg shot 471. percent and rolled past host Allen Central on Saturday night, defeating the Rebels 65-30 at J.E. Campbell Arena.

Prestonsburg was four-of-10 from 3-point range. The Blackcats shot 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the free throw line.

Freshman forward Dalton Frasure paced Prestonsburg with 25 points and 16 rebounds. Frasure was one of three Prestonsburg scorers to reach double figures. The freshman was one of two Blackcats to register a double-double. Jarredd Jarrell scored 16 points and Bryson Williams added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Blackcats.

Jarrin Hall scored five points while Blake Lemaster and Johnathan Mullins netted two apiece for Prestonsburg in the win.

Prestonsburg 75, South Floyd 59: The Prestonsburg Blackcats remained on the road on Tuesday, traveling to South Floyd for its second game versus the Raiders in four outings. Prestonsburg didn’t disappoint its many fans who made the trip to Hi Hat. The Blackcats pulled away to win, defeating South Floyd 75-59 at Raider Arena.

Sophomore guard Jarredd Jarrell paced Prestonsburg with a game-high 27 points. Jarrell was three-of-eight from 3-pint range.

Freshman forward Dalton Frasure logged another double-double, scoring 18 points and pulling down 14 rebounds for the Blackcats.

Junior guard Jarrin Hall joined Jarrell and Frasure in double figures, scoring 17 points in the key district/conference win.

Bryson Williams scored eight points and Aaron Foley added five for the Blackcats. Williams hauled in 10 rebounds while Foley chased down seven caroms.

Prestonsburg only shot 35.5 percent (22-of-62) from the field en route to the win. The Blackcats were five-of-21 (23.8 percent) from 3-point range.

Prestonsburg got the free throw often, eventually connecting on 26-of-47 foul shots.

The Blackcats owned an advantage on the glass, pulling down 41 total rebounds.
