Former Martin Mayor Thomasine Robinson was hospitalized last week following cancer surgery. According to city councilor Charles Justice and Mahendra Varia, Robinson went into Pikeville Medical Center for surgery on January 24 to have a portion of her lung removed.

Justice says that Robinson has been battling cancer for some time. According to Justice, while in the hospital, Robinson developed pneumonia in her other lung and has been moved to the intensive care unit.

Thomasine Robinson was appointed mayor of the City of Martin in 1998, and had run successfully in 2000, 2004, and 2008. Robinson lost what would have been her fourth consecutive term to Sam Howell in November of 2012 by a margin of three votes.
