Blackcats rout Piarist, move to 6-0 in district

MARTIN - The Prestonsburg Blackcats remained undefeated in the 58th District/Floyd County Conference on Thursday night (Jan. 24), thanks to a convincing 82-46 win over host Piarist School.

Prestonsburg moved out in front early and never faltered en route to the win.

With the victory, Prestonsburg improved to 6-0 in the 58th District/Floyd County Conference.

Following the loss, Piarist slipped to 0-6 in the district/conference.

The Blackcats shot 39.5 percent (32-of-81) from the field. Prestonsburg was four-of-19 from 3-point range.

The Blackats also fared well at the free throw. Prestonsburg shot 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the charity stripe.

Two Prestonsburg players reached double figures in the scoring column and three others had 10 or more rebounds.

Freshman Dalton Frasure led Prestonsburg with a game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Jarredd Jarrell joined Frasure in double figures, adding 16 points for the Blackcats.

Bryson Williams just missed double figures, finishing with nine points.

Aaron Foley grabbed 11 rebounds and Bryson Williams added 10 boards for Prestonsburg in the victory.

Williams netted nine points, Aaron Foley seven, Blake Lemaster six, Blake Dean five, Jonathan Mullins three and Charles Gearheart and Jon Stidham chipped in two each for the Prestonsburg boys.

The Blackcats grabbed 50 total rebounds in the winning effort.

John Gullett led Piarist with 16 points. Gullett, the only Piarist scorer to reach double figures, drained six-of-six free throw attempts, turning in a perfect performance from the foul line. Ben Dennison narrowly missed double figures, netting nine points for the Knights.

Galvin Greene, Tyler Stumbo and Michael Williams rounded out the Piarist scoring with seven points apiece.

Williams grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Knights. Gullett hauled in eight rebounds and Greene chased down seven caroms for Piarist in the loss.
