Nickell leads Lady Eagles past Asbury

PIPPA PASSES - The Alice Lloyd College women’s basketball team notched another win on Thursday night, defeating visiting Asbury University 77-66 at the Grady Nutt Athletic Center.

Alice Lloyd beat KIAC counterpart Asbury for its second straight win. With the win, Alice Lloyd improved to 15-10 overall and 9-5 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC).

Asbury, however, fared well in the first half. The visiting team led Alice Lloyd 40-35 at halftime.

Facing a three-point deficit in the second half, Alice Lloyd went on a 19-9 run with around eight minutes remaining.

Junior forward Ariel Nickell turned in another phenomenal performance for the Alice Lloyd women’s basketball team. Nickell scored a game-high 39 points for the Lady Eagles. She was 14-of-26 from the field, hit 11 of 12 foul shots and also hauled down 14 rebounds.

Nickell is currently leading the nation in both scoring and rebounding.

Sophomore guard Carla Booth, a transfer from Eastern Kentucky University, finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
