BETSY LAYNE - South Floyd teams swept Piarist School squads in 58th District basketball tournament play-in games Tuesday at D.W. Howard Fieldhouse. In the girls’ game, South Floyd notched its first win in the 2012-13 season, defeating Piarist 63-20. In the boys’ game, South Floyd rolled past Piarist 87-44.

Girls - South Floyd 63, Piarist School 20: Freshman guard Leighann Hall poured in a game-high 38 points to lead South Floyd (5) to a convincing 63-20 win over Piarist School (4) in the play-in game of the 58th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening at D.W. Howard Fieldhouse. South Floyd defeated Piarist for its first win in the 2012-13 season.
Hall drained seven 3-point field goals on her way to the career-high scoring total.
South Floyd secured an early lead and never faltered en route to the win.
During the regular-season, Piarist posted a pair of wins over South Floyd, defeating the Lady Raiders 63-19 on Jan. 7 in the first matchup between the two squads. When the two teams met on Feb. 8, Piarist managed to pull out a hard-fought win, prevailing 47-45.
With the win, South Floyd (1-22), under the direction of new head coach Justin Triplett, advanced to meet top seed Allen Central.
Piarist exited the 2012-13 season 6-20.
Boys - South Floyd 87, Piarist School 44: In the play-in game of the 58th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament at D.W. Howard Fieldhouse Tuesday, South Floyd (4) rolled past Piarist School, winning 87-44.
Junior guard Austin Bailey led South Floyd with 19 points. Bailey drained five 3-point field goals.
Junior guard Austin Saisbury scored 16 points and senior guard Dakota Justice tossed in 13 for the Raiders.
South Floyd outscored Piarist 26-7 in the opening quarter. The Raiders remained in control in the second quarter, eventually carrying a commanding 50-17 lead over Piarist into halftime.
Piarist finished its latest season with a 4-21 overall record.
South Floyd is under the guidance of first-year head coach Justin Holbrook. The Raiders moved to 6-22 after posting the win.
