Betsy Layne, P’burg share top conference honors

BETSY LAYNE - Betsy Layne and Prestonsburg shared top honors in the Floyd County Conference. Each team finished with a 7-1 record. Also, both squad placed four players on the All-Floyd County Conference Team.

Veteran Betsy Layne head coach Junior Newsome and Prestonsburg bench boss James DeRossett each claimed Floyd County Conference Coach of the Year awards.

Prestonsburg senior Bryson Williams was named the Floyd County Conference Player of the Year. During his senior season, Williams, a three-sport standout who also stars in football and baseball, scored the 1,000th point of his high school career.

Dakota Justice was this year’s Duff Award winner.

Betsy Layne, Prestonsburg, Allen Central, South Floyd and the Piarist School were represented on the All-Floyd County Conference Team. A breakdown of the All-Floyd County Conference honorees, listed by schools, follows.

Betsy Layne: Peyton Case, Garran Newsome, Dylan Hamilton, Dylan Meade.

Prestonsburg: Dalton Frasure, Jarredd Jarrell, Jarrin Hall, Aaron Foley.

South Floyd: Austin Bailey, Dakota Justice, Tyler Daniels.

Allen Central: Cameron Hamilton, Josh Wiley, Mason Nelson.

Piarist School: Tyler Stumbo.
