Under the proposed map, all of Floyd County and one precinct in Pike County would be represented by House Speaker Greg Stumbo. Currently, three Floyd precincts are represented by Rep. Hubert Collins.

FRANKFORT — A plan to redraw Kentucky’s House of Representatives district would leave Floyd County with just one legislator in the House.

House Bill 2 was approved 53-46 Wednesday, along party lines.

Under the plan, the 95th District currently held by House Speaker Greg Stumbo would be composed of all of Floyd County, plus one precinct in Pike County.

The way the map is currently drawn, Stumbo has all of Floyd County except for three precincts — Auxier, Endicott-Buffalo, and Rough and Tough — which are part of the 97th District held by Rep. Hubert Collins.

Republicans objected to the new map, because it would require 11 Republican representatives to run against each other in the next election.

The bill now heads to the Republican-controlled Senate, where it faces an uncertain future. The Senate chose to wait until next year to address redrawing its own district boundaries.
