As the 2012-13 school year comes to an end, planning has begun for the 2013-14 school year, including registering new students for kindergarten and Head Start in the Floyd County School system.

Times and locations were released this week by Floyd county Schools for registering new students for kindergarten for the next school year. There will be both a registration, and a camp for new kindergarten students later this summer.

The dates and times for registration are as follows:

• Allen Elementary - Registration: March 26 & 28 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.; Camp: July 26 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

•Betsy Layne Elementary - Registration: April 1 & 2 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.; Camp: July 15-17 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

• Duff Elementary - Registration: March 25 & 26 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.; Camp: July 22 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

• May Valley - Registration: March 28 & 29 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.; Camp: July 30 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

• McDowell Elementary - Registration: April 16 - 18 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.; Camp: July 29-31 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

• Osborne Elementary - Registration: April 11 & 12 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.; Camp: July 15 & 16 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

• Prestonsburg Elementary - Registration: April 12 & 19 8:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m.; Camp July 29 - 30 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

• Stumbo Elementary - Registration: March 29 & April 26 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.; Camp: July 10 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

If you have a child who will be 3 or 4 years old by Oct. 1, 2013 school officials ask that you complete an application with them to give children a Head Start in school. Applications for the new school years must be completed by May 31, so plans can be made to meet needs of each child. Your child may qualify if the family is at 150 percent of poverty or your child qualifies for special education. Applications for Floyd County Head Start/Preschool 2013-2014 school years will be taken on March 22 and April 26 in each Floyd County Head Start and preschool classroom from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at each of the county’s elementary schools.

According to school officials, parents seeking to enroll their children must bring the following:

• Certified Birth Certificate. Kentucky certificates are $18. You may pick up an application from the Floyd County Board office or order online at http://chfs.ky.gov/dph/vital/birthcert.htm

• Proof of family income which may include: check stubs for a month, W-2s, award letters from SS/SSI, letter from Community-Based Services, and others.

• Medical insurance card
