Three films and a whole series that you might have missed will make for great entertainment options during the upcoming week.

ASSASSIN’S CREED – This adaptation of the popular video game made for an entertaining action epic. Michael Fassbender stars as the subject of a virtual reality type of experiment. He discovers, via the process, that he was descended from an order of highly trained killers who flourished in Spain . The experiment brings forward his ancient training just in time to continue an ongoing battle between the Assassin’s group and the Templars in modern times. The gimmick allows you to enjoy two period settings and some jaw dropping action sequences.

LIVE BY NIGHT – Ben Affleck directed this adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s crime novel about a prohibition era hood who must relocate to Miami, from Boston, when he upsets a local crime lord. Good stuff that gets the period setting right and offers a solid supporting cast that includes Zoe Saldana, Chris Cooper, and Titus Welliver. While this didn’t do well at the box office it is a great rental prospect. Affleck’s has previously made two other Lehane books into movies. Check out “Gone Baby Gone” if you enjoy this effort.

WOLF CREEK: SEASON ONE – The popular serial killer from down under films make the leap into series format with this six part story. Once again Mick Taylor(still played by John Jarrat) is slaughtering tourists in the outback. One survivor, a 19 year old American girl, decides to come back and stop him once an for all. Good chill sand suspense ensue.

MISS SOLANE – Jessica Chastain stars in this tense drama as a lobbyist in Washington DC. You get to see how deals are made by this slick talker until an issue with gun control laws snags her into a standoff with some rough customers. Good drama that doesn’t paint such a nice picture of our political machinery.
