Variety, including big budget action, awaits renters

A solid week for renters included family fare, big budget action, and one television classic.

FURIOUS 7 – The gag of car boosting action heroes is back for one last adventure with co-star Paul Walker(who passed after this installment). This time the stunts are off the wall as Jason Statham joins the action . He is not a happy camper since his brother was left in a coma after dealing with Vin Diesel and his team(which includes Michelle Rodriguez). Fun but not the strongest installment in the series.

THE OVERNIGHT – It is hard to describe this one but here goes. A couple move to L.A. with their son . They are feeling adrift and don’t know anyone so a chance encounter with another couple, with a boy of their own, sparks interest. They are invited over for ‘Pizza Night” and the evening progresses thanks to high spirits and a little partying. Things then get weird . If you’re up for something different and challenging then give this a spin.

CINDERELLA – Kenneth Branagh crafts a huge spectacle flick out of the old fairy tale and succeeds in delivering a fine piece of family entertainment. Lily James stars as the mistreated girl whose step mother and sisters berate and abuse her until a prince comes along . Cate Blanchett makes for nasty step mother and Helena Bonham-Carter is the good witch who tries to give Cinderella a step up with some fancy shoes.

LOST IN SPACE : THE COMPLETE SERIES – The science fiction classic spin on the Swiss Family Robinson is back in a complete set that features the black and white first season as well as the two color ones that followed. The first season remains the most dramatically pleasing with the remaining seasons adopting a more comedic tone. The shows look crisp but the best bit is the cool Robot replica that comes with the set. The show is perfect for nostalgia buffs as well as young children who may not be so critical of the clunky effects.
