Music includes, “Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep,” from White Christmas, “For the Beauty of the Earth,” “I Think the World is Glorious,” “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come,” “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” “Hymn of Praise” and more.
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will follow at 10 a.m. Thursday. The PSO will perform Má Vlast, the six-part symphonic by Czech composer Bedřich Smetana. Má Vlast journeys through imagery from the composer’s homeland to evoke imagery of landscapes, a wedding party, a hunt and even water nymphs.
“Wonder Years: A Kentucky Journey 1968-72” will air Thursday, at noon and Friday at 9 a.m. This special is a whirlwind tour through four tumultuous years of Kentucky, US and World history. Producer Dan Conti tells the story without narration, using clips of actual news broadcasts and documentaries, films, TV shows, speeches and music. The political, sports and musical figures of the day were larger than life…Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Wendell Ford, Charles de Gaulle, Mao Tse-Tung, Willie Mays, Joe Namath, the Beatles and The Who.
As assassinations and the war in Vietnam tear the nation apart, astonishing achievements like the first heart transplant and a man on the moon point to exciting and promising paths for the future.
Kentucky becomes the nation’s top coal producer, braves a mining disaster, horse race scandal and racial strife and welcomes Robert Kennedy to Prestonsburg. “Wonder Years: A Kentucky Journey” promises to spark delightful and melancholy memories along the way.
“Elvis Presley – The Gospel Years” will air Friday at 8 p.m. On this special edition of Muddy Bottom Blues, host Paul Hitchcock explores the gospel recordings of Elvis Presley from 1957 to 1971 and featuring The Jordanaires and The Imperials.
