NEW YORK, NY. – One East Kentucky star continues to rise as it was announced on Tuesday that Chris Stapleton will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.

The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) announced their January slate of shows on Tuesday. The announcement stated that on January 16, Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Adam Driver will make his hosting debut alongside first-time musical guest Chris Stapleton.

Stapleton’s debut album, Traveller, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.

Stapleton, the Country Music Association (CMA) new artist of the year, made a splash in 2015 at the country music awards with his duet of the George Jones classic “Tennessee Whiskey” with Justin Timberlake.

Chris Stapleton was raised in Staffordsville, and was a graduate of Johnson Central High School in Paintsville. The son of a coal miner, his music is fused with American Country and Kentucky Bluegrass.

Stapleton moved to Nashville in 2001 to pursue a music career, and worked for many years behind the scenes as a songwriter for various artists.

In 2006 he received his first award alongside Chris DuBois from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers for the single, “Your Man” recorded by Josh Turner.

During the 2015 CMA show, Stapleton also took home awards for male vocalist of the year, album of the year, and breakout artist of the year.

On January 16 Stapleton will take the stage in NBC Studios in New York, but it was only last summer that he was performing sold out shows at the Mountain Arts Center and making surprise visits to the Prestonsburg Health Care Center for a birthday party.
