UPIKE Film Festival: Call for entries

Staff Report

PIKEVILLE – Filmmakers are invited to submit their work to the University of Pikeville’s Film and Media Arts Festival. The film and media arts program is looking to showcase and reward creative works and original films during its second annual film festival on April 8-9. The goal of the festival is to promote the art of filmmaking on the UPIKE campus and surrounding areas.

Expanding upon the foundations set by the first festival, this year the film festival is accepting free submissions from filmmakers with connections to Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia, and paid submissions from filmmakers outside of the tri-state. International films will not be accepted.

Entries will be accepted from professionals and college, high school and middle school students. Works of all lengths and types, including documentary, animation, music video and traditional narrative will be accepted. The deadline is Feb. 15. Late submissions will be accepted until March 7. Filmmakers will be notified of acceptance by March 14.

More than $500 in cash prizes will be awarded for best of show, best UPIKE student film and “best of” in the middle school, high school, college and professional categories. Additionally, high school participants will be eligible to receive a scholarship to study film at UPIKE.

Although works of all lengths will be accepted, entries filmed specifically for the festival should be no longer than 10 minutes for screening. Subject matter should be appropriate for younger audiences.

To learn more about the rules and regulations or to submit an entry, visit www.fmafest.org. Films are accepted through the Film Freeway platform at https://filmfreeway.com/festival/fmafest which allows submission of digital copies of films through outlets such as YouTube or Vimeo and provides information regarding the film and its maker(s). Videos should be unlisted if on YouTube or password protected if on Vimeo to allow audiences to be surprised with the content shown during the festival.

Screenings will be held in Booth Auditorium, Record Memorial Building, on the university campus. For more information, email [email protected]
